This calculator makes it possible to determine the interior and exterior radii of the coverage area of an antenna according to its height, the electrical tilt angle and the width of the vertical beam. It helps plan cell coverage and optimize signal footprint for better distribution.
Formulas
Interior radius = H / ( tan(A + BW/2) × 5280 )
Exterior radius = H / ( tan(A − BW/2) × 5280 )
Explanation of formulas
The formulas use the antenna height (H, in feet), flip angle (A), and beamwidth (BW) in degrees. By calculating the tangent of these angles, we obtain the horizontal distance corresponding to the projection of the signal. Values are converted to miles, but can be transformed to kilometers or meters for other applications.
Uses of the calculator
- Planning for cellular and radio coverage.
- Optimization of antenna positioning and inclination.
- Signal range evaluation for 4G, 5G or Wi-Fi networks.
- Practical tool for telecom engineers and network designers.
