Noise Temperature to Noise Figure Converter

K
K

This converter makes it possible to determine the noise figure (Noise Figure, NF) in dB from the noise temperature expressed in kelvins. It is widely used to evaluate the performance of amplifiers, receivers and RF components in terms of sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio.

Formula

NF(dB) = 10 × log10((T Noise / T REF ) + 1)

Explanation of the formula

The formula relates the noise temperature (T Noise ) to the signal-to-noise ratio degradation caused by a device. T REF is generally set at 290 K (standard ambient temperature). A higher noise temperature indicates a greater loss of system performance, reflected in a larger noise figure.

Uses of the calculator

  • Quick conversion between noise temperature and noise factor.
  • Performance evaluation of low noise amplifiers (LNA).
  • Design and optimization of RF reception chains.
  • Practical tool for telecommunications engineers and researchers.
